HAB Brief
I’ve spent twenty years thinking about how our homes should work. So the housing I want to build has to be:

1. CONTEXTUAL – buildings that look as though they belong uniquely to one place, in styles and materials that reflect their location setting, history and culture.

2. SUSTAINABLE – houses that have a minimal environmental impact in construction and in use.

3. CONTEMPORARY – proper architecture in other words, that serves our contemporary needs and which can be flexible enough to accommodate small changes in the way we live.

4. ENJOYABLE – they should make us feel like better, healthier, kinder, more civilised human beings. They should detox us from the ravages of the world. In short, we should have a positive, enriching relationship with our home.

5. SOCIABLE – laid out to promote a sense of community. We should be creating a rich social mix, putting in shared spaces, waste management, share schemes for cars and Homezones.

6. PROFITABLE – the scheme has to make money because I have to convince other developers that the alternative to the bog-standard houseburger is so much better and profitable too.
