We are thrilled that HAB Housing has been selected as one of ten chosen developers in the NHS’s Healthy New Towns programme, which brings together health providers, commissioners, local government, and developers to create healthier places for people.
Healthy New Towns will explore the ways that housing developments can contribute more positive health outcomes for their residents. This includes shaping new towns and communities to promote health and wellbeing, rethinking the delivery of health care services, and teaching best practice to future developments and regeneration areas.
HAB is working with the scheme to embed wellbeing into developments from the start, which will improve population health in areas of regeneration, and make it easier for residents to lead healthier lives.
In England, people are now living longer but in poorer health, with preventable conditions being the leading cause of ill-health. Health inequality is a growing issue, with people in less deprived areas living up to 20 years longer, one in five children suffering from obesity, and one in four people experiencing mental health issues each year. We hope that our work with Healthy New Towns will go some way to tackling these issues, by bringing wellbeing to the forefront of our lives and homes.
HAB developments are recognised for their community and landscape-led design, which we believe feeds into the promotion of residents’ wellbeing. Green spaces, communal areas, cycling and dog walking tracks, allotments, wildflower meadows, carshares, and children’s playgrounds are just some of the facilities we build into our developments to ensure our customers and their families are able to thrive.
