It was with no small degree of pride and delight that I judged the Young Welsh Business Dragons last month (sorry for publishing delay, tech stupidity on my part...). Schoolchildren from right across south west Wales had cogitated on the a la mode issue of Smart Homes. Their resultant ideas, products and presentations were excellent - from exothermic-reactant bathroom tiles to utilise waste shower water to self-heat the floor - to smart, preprogrammed wardrobe mirrors which could let you visualise yourself wearing any ensemble without the undressing / redressing hassle. But the winners were Bryngwyn School in Llanelli for their Kompact Kitchen ideas for integrated home dishwashers-cum-ovens which via smart phone apps could start cooking your tea and washing the dishes while you're on your home commute at teatime. A lot of thought had gone into the business plan, likely market sectors, barriers to entry (and thoughts on overcoming those) and the brand itself was great. Congratulatons to the team and indeed all the other entrants.
