HAB Housing Chairman, Kevin McCloud, has praised the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) Happy By Design guide, which examines the ways house builders can create happier and healthier spaces. Kevin said of the guide: “Anyone building a house should read this first, as should every single developer.”
Happy By Design: A Guide to Architecture and Mental Wellbeing, is aimed at architects who, author Ben Channon believes, should be designing buildings for the human experience, not just for cost efficiency.
Like Channon, we understand that the time we spend in our homes, offices, and other buildings can directly affect our mental wellbeing, and since Brits are predicted to spend over 90% of our time indoors, building spaces with people in mind should be an architects’ main focus.
This design-lead approach is a key component of HAB’s process. When it comes to our developments we’re always thinking about how a community will form around the space, and what we can do with the landscaping and home layouts that will be as comfortable and useable as possible. We even offer custom-build options that offer families the opportunity to design homes specifically suited to their lifestyles and needs.
Find out more about our approach to design, and how we feel it sets us apart from other developers in our Let’s Talk HAB blog series. Now, with the help of Happy By Design, we hope to see design-lead processes become the norm.
